Mug of the Day- Kinderhook
A few years ago I bought myself a lovely pottery mug at Plimoth Plantation and that began something of a hobby for me. As we've visited historic places, F&D events, and craft fairs, I've looked for handmade mugs and cups that have a special "something" about them and they have become part of most of my mornings. I've got a bunch.
Morning is probably my favorite time of day. I can usually snatch a few hours before work and do some things around the house and yard. I love the quiet. I love the light. I love that feeling of accomplishment. And it's one part of the day that no one but me owns. This late spring time of year is lovely because I can get outside and do some yardwork, water plants, and our very small home becomes larger. I like to push out the walls of our living and working space so that it takes in the outside as well.
But what about the mug?
The mug is part of making my morning before work and kids and go, go, go more interesting. I choose a different mug each morning and it goes with me throughout the day, being refilled with whatever the drink of choice happens to be. For most of the year it seems to be sweet tea...now homemade, but when push-comes-to-shove, McD's will do. (I'll discuss my addiction to sweet tea a different time.)---And in the winter I've discovered the true bliss of vanilla chai. -- Regardless, the Mug of the Day sees me through all the things that fill my day. It's consistent. Consistency is a wonderful thing and, for some of us, pretty hard. I try. Most days are pretty consistent with how things run, but with 6 people in the house, it's not always easy. And now that everyone is older, the schedules don't typically jive. All good. That's what we hope will happen, right? They all do their thing and are self sufficient.I digress.
Today, it's the Kinderhook Mug. I got this lovely green piece at a craft fair 2 Julys ago in Kinderhook, New York. They have a lovely town craft fair during the muster there each June and the same potter is usually there. Sometime I'll show you the matching pitcher.
Well, on we go with the day. Work and homeschool...and homeschoolers.Sun, and I'll probably work from the deck. Pushing those walls out. Push, push, push.
